Foliar Application
Foliar spraying works from leaf-out (mid-April/May) until the leaves fall off (October/November) and can be very effective at removing invasive plants on the first spray!
The following instructions can be used to treat the following non-native species:
Suggested Herbicide: Roundup Pro Concentrate (purchase at Arborchem or Tractor Supply Company)
Suggested Dye: Liquid Harvest Lazer Blue Spray Pattern Indicator (purchase at Arborchem or Amazon)
(While using this temporary dye is optional, it can aid in spray uniformity and coverage as well as making it easier to see what areas have already been sprayed.)
Suggested Additive: Escort (purchase at Arborchem)
(While Escort as an additive is optional, it can increase the efficacy of the herbicide.)
INSTRUCTIONS
-Identify the area to be sprayed and take “before” pictures, if desired
-Calculate measurements of Herbicide, Dye, and Additive per tank
-Add 1 gallon of water to tank. Carefully measure Herbicide, Dye, and Additive, then finish filling tank with water. ALWAYS FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS ON LABEL
-Mix together thoroughly by agitating sprayer with lid on
-Spray target species, taking care not to spray non-target species. Roundup will kill or weaken any plant with leaves it touches.
-Store and dispose of extra herbicide according to manufacturer’s instructions
-Results should be evident in 4-6 weeks
Touch up areas that were missed with additional herbicide, as needed
4 ounces herbicide per 1 gallon of water
1 ounce dye per 1 gallon of water (if using)
1 gram of Escort per 1 gallon of water (if using)
the ideal spray pattern is more of a mist than a stream
aim to cover at least 75% of the leaves in herbicide
spray the leaves until thoroughly covered to the point of a drip, without excessive dripping occurring
avoid spraying herbicide into standing or moving water
Spray is ineffective on soil, bark, or roots of plants. Roundup only works when it touches leaves
Sprayers can be purchased through Arborchem or at local retailers
